The Department of Music and Dance boasts a faculty of world-class performers and scholars committed to providing a creative, vibrant and challenging environment for artistic development and professional training of students in music education, applied performance, and history. In 2004, the dance program was integrated into the Department of Music and Dance and offers training for all students, experienced and inexperienced, to participate in a variety of classes, including aesthetics, history, production, conditioning and performance.
Music and Dance Department faculty, in addition to their instructional activities are active musicians, conductors, soloists, choreographers and dancers in the community, regionally, nationally and internationally. There are two outstanding faculty chamber music groups in the department include Argenta and The Collective. Over the past 15 years, Argenta has gathered a committed following of classical chamber music fans in northern Nevada and around the world. The Collective, is one of the creative and versatile jazz ensembles in the West and performs extensively throughout the region.
